Is Lapping my Tuniq Tower 120 and Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 worth it?

Thread Starter
I was just wondering if it is worth Lapping my Tuniq Tower 120 and Intel Core 2 Duo E6600?

i am just finishing up building my PC and at the moment, it has stock cooling on the CPU, but when i had the TT120 before on it, the PC wouldnt load whatsoever, maybe because i didnt seat it properly or soething, i dont know.

but, looking at the base of the HS, the thermal paste applied numerous times and wiped off didnt give the most mirror like shine, infact, no shine whatsoever.

but i woud also like to ask wou;d i be able to still gain much better cooling than a stock cooler when attaching it instead?

and of course when lapping it, i would gain more better results in cooling, but is it really worth it? because i heard it take hours (around 6 or something) to gain very good finishes, and was asking here if it is worth doing it whatsoever?

i would really appreciate it if anyone can help me with this. i would want to have the Tuniq Tower 120 in the Pc already with out having me to remove everything and replace it with this and that HS cooler.

thanks.

In some cases, it gets up to 15 degrees cooler! (I read that somewhere, I can find the source)

You'll probably see about 15-20c of drop off of stock cooling...I wouldn't lap it...not just yet, if your temps are 45c, then theres no need

Then by all means, do it! We all have times when we can't find anything better to do... right? :-\\ Well, I do. lol

Hell, it's worth a try. And if the difference is only a few degrees, thats a few more degrees you can stick in it.

Yes, but I'm sure that 15 degree drop is fairly rare.

But, it just might be you.

LoL When my mobo comes in I plan to do the same thing. I might even lap my northbridge, but that just might be TOO extreme.

http://www.easypckits.com/

get a "premium lapping kit" and the final finishing compound.

I used this kit and shaved a few degrees off my temps, not a whole heck of a lot, but a few. I don't believe that 15 degree drop for an instant, maybe off stock heat sink, with stock thermalpaste compared to a TT lapped plus a lapped CPU, but you will be luck if you shave off more than 5 degrees.
