I can...

It's called Gentoo Linux. It's this nifty little thing that with a modchip, I was able to install it, and use my xbox AS a computer, and all you have to do is pop it open and plug in a larger HD. At the time, was a 160 Giger...

I would say that the reason most are drawn to consoles is the fact that you can pay 300 dollars and end up with a system that 5 years down the road you can still play games on at the same fps that you could before...

Example: If Crysis came out on the Xbox 360, you would still be able to play it as if it came out in 4 years...

Example: If Crysis came out on the PC today, it would run fine with an 8800GTS and Core 2 Duo. However if it came in 3 years, it would need a Core OCTO, and 6 gigs of ram not to mention a Nvidia 9900000 GTXGBFB.

All I know is that 300 for a console is a lot better than 600 for a video card and 350 fore a processor that will only last me 3 years.

Not to mention online gaming is more fun, and a lot easier...
It feels better than comp gaming.

However this is all coming from someone who uses linux as their main OS.

someday, the computer and console will merge, and we will all be happy, but right now its computer that is winning.

WASD/Mouse > controller (ROFL)

BTW, Computer has much more functionality, than any console. That is why you guys are usuing computers to post on OCN.
And I really think that computers have much better games due to not being limited by a TV and controllers and hardware.

PS2 was released in 1999. Age of Empires 2 for PC was released in the same year. I play Age of Empires 2 and it's predecessors... plus Unreal Tournament, Counterstrike 1.6, etc etc to this day.

How many PS2 release games do people still play any way? The fact is they're playing the newer PS2 games because they can't afford a nex-gen console.

PCs are upgradeable. Which means if you want to play a newer game, you invest in new parts which will allow you to play newer games AND older games. Xbox, especially, doesn't have that backwards compatibility. Sony took that into account, which is why I think PS3 is the only true competition for PCs.

Consoles have their advantages, though. I play consoles when I feel like it, but with a console you can't switch between music, movies, games, word processing, etc as you can with a PC. In all honesty, they shouldn't be contrasted by their price per gaming capability, because they're in different leagues of computing. PS3 is definitely bridging the gap, but there's a ways to go before consoles become, basically, prebuilt PCs... Hmmmm that's a funny thought.

As for what's on topic, I won't upgrade my PC all the time, so if PC games don't get the bleeding edge technology, I won't mind.

I think consoles have their place, but it is unfortunate that PC gaming has to be held back because the technology advancements take longer to reach the consumer with consoles. Nvidia could put out 10 new cards inbetween console generations. And if gaming companies lag with the slow, staggered advancement of consoles, we PC gamers will be held back.
Ten? Forty!

Fixed.
Some turn out really good, like Beyond Good&Evil.

Agreed. I tend to skip whole generations. Skipped the GeForce 5's, skipped most of the GeForce 6's, got a bunch of GeForce 7's, have no plans on a GeForce 8.

Has a lot to do with the reason I would spend just 400 more bucks for a system that is far more flexible.

You know, this debate will just go on and on and on...

I havent played games on consoles since after the first year the PS2 came out. Ive dabbled here and there since I have a ps1, xbox, ps2, xbox 360 and a PS3. But those crappy consoles are 90% for the kids. I do enjoy a bit of sing star with the girlfriend however. The only thing I use consoles for is xbox 360's media center capability. PRON ON THE 48" BIG SCREEN!!!! WHOOO HOOO!!!
