Yes, there is real world noticable performance. After RAID0, I no longer get the load screens moving around the world map in Oblivion. I also load areas when entering doors in 1-3s. In 2142, I am usually the first or second guy on the map.

Since you have two different HD models... you may want to run two sets of RAID0... or sell some and get matching. While you are able to run all 4 in an array, you run at the lowest performance of all four.

Never run RAID5 without a smart controller. Performance is horrid due to parity calcs.
Once again...

okay, so 4 of the same drive. I'd like to be the first person with 4 or 5 raptors in a raid :-D. Damn that would be a hot setup tho. I might put those in my refridgerator.

here we go with the fridge again

There are hundreds of threads around about cooling w/ a fridge, so I'm not really going to address that it doesn't work (oops, i just did). What I am going to address is that HDD's will last longer if they get a little bit of heat. If you're running them at 30-40 C, they won't last as long as 50 C (what they usually run at w/o cooling)

Very true. I am always the first one in when I zone on WoW, and I am (almost) always the first one who's in a game server after a mapchange (but I think my settings has alot of influence on that too)

Sweet. Even on the rig I have now, I have to wait like 10 seconds to log into WoW, and like 6 to zone in. That's no time at all, but why not spend 400 or more to cut that time in half?! That's time wasted! I could be grinding for my epic flying in those 3 seconds.

I'm not concerned about the price. Here's why I want a RAID setup:

Building / Modding my PC is a hobby. I have just about everything else I want right now. So my next step to add on is RAID setup. Then I'll maybe go to Water Cooling. Then Maybe I'll go to SLi. Then maybe I'll get a new processor. And I will keep adding. Just because I have the money and I love to do it. So adding anything to my computer is not a waste of money. It buys me enjoyment and fun, and I definitely love blowing people away when they come over and experience "The Spartan" as I call it (300 = best movie ever, besides Transformers and LOTR. And Donnie Darko).

So why I'm going with RAID is because that's what I want next. I'm very happy with my Overclock, so no need for better cooling or processor yet. SLi isn't all that much right now.

Maybe eventually I'll think about building another rig for a media editor / center but until then, Gaming Rig all the way.
