That's interesting, because my current 7600GT that I'm using until my X1950XT gets here can barely manage 40 FPS in HL2 with med/high settings at 1680x1050.

I call bull on that one.

ill show you screenshots of my CS:S with netgraph 3 on when i get home tonight
and my settings....and remember my CPU is significantly faster than yours, in fact a little more than twice as fast...per core.

On my e66 at 3.6 and sli at 621/1026 I get 169 fps at 3840x1024 everything maxed.
16:9 ratio

Three 19's
Top one is 1:1 scale to my desktop.
I'll get one of Lost Coast if anyone wants it.
And yes, vsync was on in those photo's, I normally get max 299 fps in css.

Obviously you don't have any experience with the 3007 Dell. I don't have any really recent games, but on HL2 or FEAR you can hardly tell the difference between 25x16 and 1280x800 with AA and Ansio ramped up, the only real difference is the framerate.

And no, I'm not running 1280x800... I'm running 25x16, though a LOT of games don't support that resolution, and if they don't, they still look great at the resolutions they do support. If you knew anything you would know that much.
So you are sitting here saying they are a waste when your newest games are HL2 and FEAR which came out over a year ago. You just proved my point. You can't tell the difference between 2560x1600 and 1280x800. Wow... Enough said...

Unless you like seeing low 20s and teens in games such as FSX, COH (even DX9), stalker, oblivion with texture mods, neverwinter nights 2, lord of the rings online, world in conflict, lost planet and nameless others then SLI is required for 1920x1200...

You sir, need to start turning on some AA or AF, because obviously you don't turn either on. Some people buy computers to max the game out, sure the game doesn't NEED 2x 8800, but it does need them for smooth frames at all times, and I built this computer to run games on max, not "somewhat-max".

I would love to see you run oblivion with 1 8800GTX at 1920x1200 with mods that increase draw distance and QT3. Say hello to single digits and teens. Don't critize someone for saying they wasted money on 2x 8800GTX at 1920x1200 when you bought a 2560x1600 monitor. I have no idea who buys a 2560x1600 monitor without SLI...

So lets recap, here is what I said.

Quote:
Show me a benchmark where a single GTX gets a steady 60FPS at 1920x1200 with a game that came out in the last 6 months.
SLI is required for maxing most games that came out in the last 6 months at 1920x1200. Buy some new games, and stop assuming.

On HL2, why does it say on the top "64-bit Mode Active"? I have 64-bit Vista and i cannot get HL2 to run. Is this the reason why?

I cant imagine how horrible it must be on a a sinlge GTX.

SLI makes no difference here coggy. FSX as well as FS9 are both cpu bound and hence do not benefit from the additional gpu horsepower.

I spend quite a bit of time with both, and this is quite evident.

Microsoft really screwed up with the release of this "game".

I find this amusing because you were saying that every cpu was bottlenecking the SLI Ultras in every game at every resolution to me a while back.

Quit hijacking the thread and install DX9 into Vista like you would in XP.

HL2 Is a native 64bit game mate. DId you copy your steam content from a 32bit OS? make sure you have automatic update on for the game and when it updates restart steam and see if it updates some more. I had similar problems.

Guys I will be posting more results. Maybe tonight, Sorry for the delay i've been away.

It still bottlenecks, the bottleneck is just less the higher resolution you go. Anything under 1680x1050 with 8800s in SLI is a pretty big bottleneck. 1920x1200 and above the bottleneck is pretty slim, but it really depends on the game and how it is coded to work. Some of the newer games like World in Conflict and Lost Planet are seeing absolutely no performance gain from overclocking the CPU. Cog posted some youtube videos about it.

I get around a 30% performance gain at 1280x1024 with SLI, and around a 80% performance gain at 1920x1200. Depends on the game though, some games see absolutely no benefit from SLI because they arn't coded to work with it. It kind of varys greatly from game to game. =/
