You haven't got a clue sunshine. You intend to only use 1GB of main system RAM on Vista? That's a definate no-no, and your parents will see more benefit from 2GB of RAM instead of a 7300, or similar card. Intel's integrated 950 GPU is perfectly capable at playing games like Far Cry and Unreal Tournament 2004.

I think you'd be doing your parents a favour by useing onboard graphics for now. You can always save up and add a much better dedicated video card at a later date.
well according to the people I know in real life.

My cousin
pentium4 2.0ghz
1gb of ram
radeon 9600se

He says that 1gb works just fine for vista as long as you do typing and simple stuff.

ANd I just want to go with 1gb for now as its cheap (30$) and I'm already well ummm.... sorta over there budget...

If They really need 2gbs of Ram I'll just upgrade it, but my parents most demanding application is solitare

And again I was hinking about getting a 15$ 6200 or somehing (i saw one awhile back).

^^ vista will use about 44% of that gig of ram idle on the desktop. and adding a 15$ 6200 will not be very good on 2 monitors. especially with the rest of the things you have in store for this build. also if you are over the budget already then id suggest you tell your parents to fork over more dough unless they want a guaranteed peice of junk that will just be a dissapointment.

apparently you guys don't get my point

1. my parents don't eed a super fast system
2. All of my friends run vista with 1gb of ram and do perfectly fine for simple tasks
3. Not everyone is a p.c. gamer and needs high-end stuff.
4. My video card max budget was 15$ shipped
5. if I chose to do this ACCEPT IT
6. a 6200 could run 2 monitors fine (as long as theydon't use aero which they will not because they don't need it)

i dont think you get our point, your parents are going to be giving over money to buy a computer they are going to expect something that runs fast and smooth. And if you use 1gb on any new'er OS, i mean i have trouble in xp with just one gig, but vista is going to eat that computer alive.

Oh, I see. It would've helped if you're a little more specific in the first place. 1GB should be fine for basic typing and web browseing, though you'll certainly feel the sting if you try to run any intensive applications on it.

The Intel G965 is a pretty good integrated graphics chip according to this review, though I think you can rule this out as an option if you're going AMD.

I'm sure they know what a dedicated GPU is

Um what? You have trouble on XP with 1gb? I run xp on my dad's 128mb RAM comp with no lag for web browsing, word processing and media. And why does everyone think Vista is a HUGE memory hog? Sure it uses a little but it keeps your most used programs ready on the RAM so it appears to be hogging more than it really is. I ran vista on 768b no problem... 1gb will be fine.

Why use vista if they aren't going to use Aero? Wouldn't XP be better for your parents?
