E6320 @ 2.66Ghz, few questions inside for furture oc.

Hello everyone,

o.k., i replaced my memory chips with corsair xms2 ddr2 675 cl4-4-4-12.

my bus speed is 380, the memchips are functioning on 760mhz. cl5-5-5-15.
volts are, 1.325v for vcore, 1.95v for memory.

orthos can be run here for days, nothing will crash.
but when i get the spd up to 400 without touching the volts, after few minutes with orthos, the pc crashes.

same cl speeds, tried to give some more volt to the memchips, got it up to 2.15v, still didn't make it stable.
also got the vcore to 1.35v, changed nothing.

i'm was sure enough that i can get my cpu stable at 3000mhz (429bus, 858mhz) even though the mem clock is 675 by giving it more volts.

CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME SPDING UP MY PC ?

You could try more voltage to your motherboard (MCH) if you're given the option...

you really should have gotten DDR2 800 memory.

yeah of course, i know that for a normal overclock you should have 800mhz memory.
but you know, i just want to strech my limits, see how far i can get my cpu spd.

ok sgtspike, i got the bus spd up to 400, 2800mhz. memchip works on 800mhz.
orthos run few minutes fine (which it didn't before), temp didn't pass thier limits, it looks fine.

i didn't find anh MCH volt to increase, but i did increase the memchip volt to 2.15v and the vcore to 1.35v.
and the fsb termination volt i got up to 1.3v from 1.2v.

is there some place else i could find the MCH option? or it just does not appear on P5B?

hmm now im at 3ghz, 429x7. 858mhz mem clock.
i run orthos, i run fine for few minutes and then i got this fatal error, please explain me what that means, it is the first time i get this.

Code:
Using CPU #1
Beginning a continuous self-test to check your computer.
Press Stop to end this test.
Test 1, 4000 Lucas-Lehmer iterations of M19922945 using 1024K FFT length.

or this

I believe MCH is the same as the FSB Termination voltage. Someone else jump in if I am wrong here...

The error you got was just due to instability. I'm beginning to think that it is your memory. I've never seen PC5300 that can clock more than 200mhz above stock speeds... at any rate, it's rare. If you don't mind frying it, you could TRY increasing your memory volts more, but I wouldn't recommend it.

I won't increase it above the 2.15v.
just want to try you know.

so what do u say?
btw, what is the NB vcore volt?

hmm sgt, look what i have thought.

i knew that my cpu works stable at 2.66ghz.
so i came up with the idea to increase the bus up to 429, which at multiplier 7 will result in 3ghz clock spd.
then we both saw that at 3ghz the cpu isn't stable.
so my idea was the decrease the multiplier to 6 and have a clock spd of 429x6 = 2547mhz.

atm, im running orthos for few minutes now and it does not crash.
what do you think about this mate? obviously it's not the memory chips which crashed the pc last night.

Hmmm, yeah does seem to rule out the memory as a cause. I guess it rules out everything but the chip itself. You'd be safe upping the vcore to 1.4v at least, 1.5v temporarily to see if that's the problem. I'd try doing that with the 7x multi and see where it gets ya.
