XP memory limitations...

Thread Starter
Recently I was told that XP can only handle up to 3gigs of memory and after that even if more was installed it would not utilize it. Is this true? If so then getting 2 more gigs would be kinda pointless.

For XP 32Bit and Vista 32Bit it would be pointless. You need a 64Bit OS to address all 4GB of ram.

No... it is not an XP limitation. It is a 32-bit OS limitation. You need XP Pro 64, Vista 64, 64-bit Linux, Windows Server 64, ect to properly support more than 3-3.5GB.
Once again...

The reason is 2^32 = 4GB... so the simply aren't enough unique addresses. It can be done via a PAE lookup table... but performance and support are lacking.

2^64 = 18EB.... or ~18446744100 GB
