What's so good about F.E.A.R.? - Page 3

Is FEAR and FEAR Combat different? Because the Combat one (the free online one) isn't scary at all, and I don't like it.

F.E.A.R: Combat is multiplier online, and nothing more to it. Well yeah, it is multiplier and some may not find it scary. It's not like the other team are creatures or anything. It's like, do you get scare when playing CS?

The Single Player is creepy/scary.

Some reasons why I liked FEAR so much:

1. It's like playing an FPS while being in an exciting, creepy horror movie.
2. It actually has an interesting plot IMO, that builds suspense.
3. The graphics are amazing.
4. I like the controls/interface... simple, customizable, and functional
5. The enemy AI is very good.
6. Slow-mo is nicely done, it's functional and adds to the fun.
7. It never got boring (at least for me)
8. The "melee" attacks in the game were actually useful.

I wish there would have been more between-level cutscenes though. The only real one appeared in the beginning. I know the reason for this is to improve the flow of gameplay, but I like more of the original Jedi Knight type scenes. It gets me involved in the game more. I did like the scary dreamlike cut scenes though - very creepy.

Overall, I liked this game more than I thought I would. It's one of my all time favorites.

No, only the online multiplayer is free. The single player game (i.e., the "real" game) costs money.

Personally, I found FEAR to be a) not creepy at all, and b) boring as hell. I give props to the excellent enemy AI and physics, but that doesn't make an engaging game. To me, the parts I played boiled down to the same pettern over and over again:

1. Wander through a boring and empty office cubicle farm or warehouse, or something similar, for a long time
2. Fight a handful of bad guys
3. Go back to #1

And it doesn't help that you're fighting the exact same bad guys over and over and over again. Give me a little variety, jeez.

I was SO bored that I only played through five missions (or chapters, or whatever they called them), and I quit. I practically never quit games...I always play to the end. It was just that uninteresting.

All you guys who think FEAR is "creepy" need to go back and play Clive Barker's Undying to see what a creepy game should be. FEAR ain't it.

Doom 3 is random things popping out at you over and over and over again. Maybe scary the first couple times it happens, but it got old very quickly. FEAR was creepy.
