Can vista be installed on a new machine with 4gb of ram?

Thread Starter
I have the Vista 64 But Ultimate on the way along with the rest of my pc
And im wondering can vista be installed with 4gb of ram in? I heard that yo have to take out the 2gb install it, get a hotfix then place the other 2gb of ram in.
Is this true?

I actually cant install vista x64 with 4gb of ram. It will bsod, I have to install with 2gb, apply a patch, then install the other 2gb

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929777

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
•The computer uses more than 3 GB of RAM.
•The computer uses a storage system that is running the Storport miniport driver.
•The computer uses a controller that uses 32-bit direct memory access (DMA).

It is hardware related I would guess.

Maybe the 680i only has a memory controller with 32bit DMA.
I have no clue what a storport minidriver is

You can even install 32 bit operating systems with 4gb installed. (I have done it several times) it just won't recognize the last 800 MB.

Just put all 4Gb in, you will be fine!

BTW, I have installed Xp 32bit, Vista business 32bit, and Vista business 64bit on this computer...every time it had 4Gb of RAM installed before I installed the OS...I don't know why y'all are having a problem!
