FSX also has things like extremely dynamic weather, ATC and just a lot of crap Good crap..
Yep, good crap indeed. Long time flight simmer right here, since 2000.
I agree with you though, FSX is a monster, I really don't see how PGR can be THAT big.

Well these days people are lazy. And in a racing game where you could have 200 races in a day I wouldn't want to swap discs out. Why not just have the textures as an optional DLC download? I would pay an extra $5 for them and they could load from the hard drive.

Microsoft dug a pretty deep hole by only allowing DVDs on the 360. That is why I believe the PS3 will make a big come back.

And if you flame me for being a fanboy you are a moron because most people on this forum know I own both consoles. And if I had a choice I would choose the 360, but the blu-ray technology just allows for alot more space.

I would of been happy to pay $600 for a 360 with built-in HD-DVD support for games that will need the space. However the HD-DVD addon will never be used for games.

Or perhaps there ability to keep up with developing tech
post #27 of 94
i think regardless of whether the programmers arent doing the best job. By the time we see a ps4 or xbox(?) i think dvd9 will have reached its limit and microsoft will be forced to adopt a new format or atleast start using multiple disks. I think sony was smart in including the blu ray player. And as murlocke said i would not mind paying 600 for an xbox with wireless and hd dvd built in.

PG isn't THAT big.

It's not the vastness of the use of textures on the screen that matters. What does matter is the number of textures that are included in the whole game. You could have the whole universe simulated in a game with 2 textures (space and a planet ). That game is going to be lot smaller on a disc than a game where you never leave one room, but there are thousands like in today's games. FSX is a big simulated world, but the number of textures needed on the DVD is not necessarily any different from today's newest FPS or RTS games.

Take one look at the visuals for PGR3 and what we can expect from PGR4. They simply destroy FSX - it's a whole new ball game when you look between those two genres.

You can't redefine a word...it's either GB (gigabyte), Gb (gigabit), or GiB (gibibyte). Take your pick; it's still the same amount of data, just expressed in a different number. In any case, we all know that the 360 uses dual-layer DVDs, or DVD9s, which are closer to 9.5GB.

Well then I guess the thousands of people on the internet who can code better than game designers who have been doing it for years should all take those jobs and use their efficiency skills to fit this game onto a single DVD.

Actually PGR3 had no FMV, just the start of the game... It's because how much they are putting into the game. And Xbox is starting to hit its limits. Sure they can compress better but that takes time and money.

Umm im pretty sure that a Megabyte isnt a megabit, or else they wouldnt rate your connecting w/ a 6-megabit speed and have it at ~400 kilobytes per second.

Also FSX has compressed textures that load onto the harddrive it self, Im guessing that is easier to do than have textures that have to uncompress while loading from the disk...

If you're talking to me with the GB and Gb thing, then you probably didn't read my post carefully enough.

Interesting point, but either way any textures that are in the game have to be on the DVD.
