Overclocking Q6600 Air

Thread Starter
HI I was wondering what the best motherboard would be for overclocking a Q6600 B3 stepping to 3ghz or 3.2 ghz. possibly 9x333fsb or 8x400fsb also do I have to overclock my RAM?

p5k deluxe is probably the BEST, but any p35 chipset will do well with the q6600.

you don't have to overclock your RAM, but i've found that in order to reach higher fsb speeds you just end up overclocking the RAM.

i was overclocking my q6600 last night and i found that if i wanted to run the fsb at 420 say with a 8 multi, then that automatically puts my RAM at DDR2-840 <-overclocked slightly

with your ram, you should be good with overclocking up to and over 900, but i wouldnt try much past 1000

Use 8x400. 400 is the stock speed of your RAM so if you do 9x333 you would be underclocking your RAM.

The Asus P5N32 680i is a good board.

If you're looking for max FSB out of your CPU, which I can see you are, you can go much further than 3.2GHz, especially with that Big Typhoon. Altho Quad Cores are typically very .. warm.

Go with a E4300! 3.37GHz :-D

I have B3 Q6600 running at 3.1ghz with a EVGA 680i motherboard. Don't know if that is the best but it works for me.

Best motherboard to be proven by the pros with a Q6600: ASUS P5K-Deluxe or Premium.
Yep, P5K Deluxe. Hands down.

But it wont let you run SLI, but you can use crossfire on it. I am hoping that a future nvidia board will be able to overclock as well as the P35 boards so I can upgrade and get another 8800GTX in the future.

Hey, sorry I missed them: Links to the P5K outperforming every other board by a large margin?

They've been here since June: http://www.overclock.net/intel-mothe...ed-500fsb.html

http://www.overclock.net/intel-mothe...-asus-p5k.html

At XS, several of the veterans said the same thing, P35 is a better overclocker.

Higher frequency.........thus faster overall.

I know, I've had my own hands on two different P35 boards. I'm asking where you got the notion that P5K offers a marginally better overclock. That's all.
