XPP recovery console HELP!

Thread Starter
buddy came into the shop today and said his computer wont fire up. Figured out the MOBO went bad, so I replaced it

Now I am getting a BSOD when trying to fire his puter up.

Cant boot to anything, seems like a boot sector corruption.

The only thing he told me was his power went out the other day

So I grabbed an install disk and tried the recovery console, but it is asking me for an admin password, which I never set when I loaded this machine up

I tried hitting enter, admin, password, dell..etc.

Why would XPP put a password on the recovery console???

Thanks in advance

Anyone know what the password would be?

Anyone know of another way to repair this load??..he needs everything on this hard drive bad.

Put a new HD in. Use a bootable OS CD to copy important files to the new harddrive before tinkering with the messed up HD anymore.

Iv had that happen before. I forgot what I did but whenever it asked me for the password I didn't type in anything and it still recovers eventually after pressing some buttons..

haha..tried the "random button pushing" technique...didnt work.

I am copying all the files over to the new HDD then will play with the "bad" one in a bit
