looking for a mid power amp

looking for a mid power amp (nice if it would have xlr input, but doesn't have to) to power some stereo monitors.

i don't want something like a crown or qsc amplifier used for PA or live sound, but something like but much smaller and less power.

any good ideas?

Behringer makes some excellent power amps in the 200-watt range. I've got personal experience with the A500, it's an outstanding amp. Rock solid under heavy use for about 8 hours a day driving a pair of Peavy 2-way cabs, hardly even gets warm, and sounds great when I've connected it to my home system. I highly recommend it.

NAD and Cambridge Soundworks make some good entry level integrated amps. Otherwise look vintage. My Marantz 1030 is more powerful than most consumer receivers today even though it's only rated at like 20wpc.

HOLY MOLY, behringer equipment isn't usually overpriced. thats a nice amp though, i like it, but i don't like the idea of paying $200 bucks for it. i saw a few like that not only made by behringer on musiciansfriend but they were all more than i was trying to pay. but good amps though.

it's a little more power than i was expecting but not a problem. thanks for the recommendation

EDIT: i just saw this:

for only $120 for stock-b i am so tempted to buy it.

what do you think?

i like the cambridge soundworks products, in my experience they are awesome. but any idea where i can find some of the entry level integrated amps?

i was more on the side of looking at live sound / PA type equipment, but if there's a good deal on these somewhere i'll check them out.

Looks like an amp designed for PA/DJ use. Count on it being designed to produce raw power instead of quality power

You'll have to search for your local dealer and then talk to your dealer. Saturdayaudio exchange in Chicago has a website and will ship NAD products if you don't have a local dealer. I can't recall if they also deal in Cambridge or not.

Pioneer also has a pretty good integrated amp that is worth looking at. It'll be a bit cheaper than NAD or cambridge. I believe Marantz has a good entry level integrated as well.

I can't recommend a good vintage integrated enough though. You'll get way more for your money. My 1030 cost me about $100 shipped, I cleaned it up and have been enjoying it ever since. And at 1/3-1/4th the price of the above amps it's not too shabby
