New Build, £600, clueless!

Thread Starter
So it's been just over a year since my last build, and a lot's happened since then, and I've been a bit out of touch with, well, everything.

So I've set myself a budget of £600 (about $1200) for the actual rig, not including software and monitor. But I need (more) than a little help.

It's focused on gaming, and I'll edit what I can piece together on my own as I go, but if anyone can give me some good tips and pointers, that'd be great. Thanks.

so you need everything except monitor and software, correct ?

Yes, I realise this is a big ask, but just some suggestions of any parts would be great, The last time I delved into components was when socket 939 was still good stuff.

Questions that come to mind...

"Which cpu socket?"
"What sort of psu wattage?"
"Sli? no sli? what's quatro?"
"motherboard... so will an A8n-e still do it? )
"Sata's still good, right?"
"Dual-core or quad core?"
"Anything new in the cooling world?"
"2gb of ram do it?"

Basically, being able to run the latest and upcoming games at high or decent spec. And a hdd capable of having many games installed at once would also be good.
