Wii Mod Chips are Off Limits

Thread Starter
I've seen more than a handful of posts about Wii mod chips in the last few days. Let me warn everyone now that I will be issuing infractions for anyone who posts about Wii mod chips.

They serve one real purpose: playing pirated games. Please don't argue that it also allows you to run GameCube homebrew...I've seen maybe one post about GC homebrew on actual GameCubes over two years on these forums. Expecting me to believe there is a sudden interest in GC homebrew on the Wii is basically crazy. It's an excuse, and you know it.

When there is actual Wii homebrew available, maybe the mods will consider a different position. But until then, please respect our position, which is simply to avoid any discussions that violate the law. Given the recent crackdown on mod chip resellers, I hope everyone recognizes that this concern is not just hypothetical.

It showed code running and responding to the Wii Remote. Later, the release of the Twilight Hack software made it possible to run native Wii homebrew code without any hardware modifications. This hack was created by Team Twiizers and is the first release of a non-modchip homebrew-enabling exploit on the Wii.
Having moderated for a certain console repair forum in the past, I completely understand the stance of being against modchips.. And it's probably for the same reasons Llamma had with modchips and the modified Xbox 360 firmwares-- Nobody wanted to risk legal trouble.

Yes, you are correct in saying Gamecube homebrew was a fairly dead scene.. Probably one of the few things that came out of it that's still valuable/good today on a Wii is GCOS.. But for a while now, Wii has had native homebrew that does not require any hardware modification, and similar to the Original Xbox and the PSP (great Xbox example? XBMC).. it's fairly significant. In fact, the exploit that enables homebrew can install a new channel to the Wii, called the Homebrew Channel, that will display and launch your installed homebrew.

If Overclock.net decides to shift their stance for a more accepting position, I would suggest allowing homebrew talk, but absolutely no discussion on "loaders". If it's truly about homebrew, then no talk about loaders would be going on anyway.

Cheers,

Well, you dont need to have a mod Wii to have the same results. A soft mod will do it too

Also, getting homebrew allows for a lot of software to run that's not pirated and even allows you to play dvd's on the Wii.

Check the date...this post was made in August 2007, when nothing you are saying here was remotely true. Times have changed, but I would recommend strongly consulting with the current mod staff before engaging in any discussions on this topic.
