It works.

The resistor on my board read out as 137000 ohm's across. I reduced it to 44000 and have cut my vdroop by 60-70%. gonna try to lower the resistance to about 15000-20000 ohms

@44000ohms
before:1.485 in bios = 1.385 underload
after 1.485 in bios = 1.45 underload

Just to update:
redid the pencil mod to 18000 ohms and there is no vdroop now. However this has made my OC very twitchy. So If your not interested in tweaking dont go this low.

But.... I now am stable at 3200mhz with 1.424v where as I couldnt even get into windows under 1.52v at the same clock. More stable and less stable at the same time.

but I like the mod and will definately keep it. I'm guessing that easiest results could be had between 60,000 to 30,000 ohms .

I had head that the p5k deluxe and prem idnt have the droop issue....

Am I mistaken?

Sorry if im being noobish or whatever, but im still fairly new to intel, my vdroop is quite horrible...
set in bios=1.5
cpu-z and speedfan at idle 1.46
cpu-z and speedfan under load 1.41

Will this mod work on a plain ordinary P5k??
Also how exactly is it done? just pencil on that resistor?

sounds too easy really

It should work, the difference between the ASUS boards isn't the board layout (which is what you're doing a modification of), its the extra bonuses like Wi-Fi, and other goodies. So it should theoretically work, give it a try and let us know!

Why can ASUS not do this from the start? Why is there vdroop or vpoop (on my AMD) at all?

"This" mod doesnt work on the p5k vanilla, however there is a vdroop mod and several other mods for that specific board. Just goto xtremesystems.whatever and seach "p5k mod"

And yes its pretty simple just wipe the resistor with 100% isopropyl alcahol,
check resistance with a multimeter, lay down a few pencil strokes across the resistor, blow the loose graphite out, check resistance again for gain , then fire it up and test it out.

To remove the mod: use an eraser and then wipe with the alchahol
