I hadn't heard of foobar until last Friday. Downloaded it, set up my preferences, skinned it, and have been quite pleased with it. It has superb sound quality, much better than iTunes or Windows Media Player, and I'm still just using my DS3L's onboard sound and a terribad Plantronics headset. Once I get my Razer soundcard and headset, it'll get even better.

P.S. - Your pic is awesome. I had to do a double take, haha.

Its got a miminal affect, Sek I'd say that your improvement is probably a placebo, and if you did A>B testing you wouldn't notice a difference

Unless you moved from like 192 to FLAC. It basically renders sound differently to other things.

Some differences that you might hear, are things I can't hear at all for example, and the other way around. It's a placebo thing, like niko said. If you look at the site from Foobar, you'll even see the creators saying that there is no difference in sound quality, except for maybe the last bit, which doesn't change the way the music comes out.

I'm using Media Player if I'm listening to individual songs or a cd or something (if I'm not close to my stereo), and Foobar for playlists I put together myself. But I hear no difference between the two. But I have to add that on both programs I switch of all interruptions. No effects, no equalizers, nothing. I always listen to the music pure.

Any two programs using the same file, same hardware, and same backend will sound the same. (Common sense covers that). The "difference" comes with a different backend such as kernel streaming or ASIO - protocols which Foobar can use while, say, WMP cannot. This is not just for Foobar, but also any other player like Winamp or J.River which is capable of using those same backends rather than Kmixer (the Windows DirectSound audio subsystem)

The real difference is what you can change if foobar....like the equalizer, your channels loudness etc, and stuff like that.
