Because under phase the Q6600 would do exactly the same.

Won't it still give him the extra 400 MHz or so? =S Or do the Q6600 overclock better, etc?

I don't care about stock.

I suggested slapping a Phase change cooler on it. Either CPU will overclock like mad (probably over 4.0GHz).

Oh, which reminds me... don't forget some aftermarket cooling for the NB/SB.

Hey Chozart, you have dual gtxs, a x1950pro, and the raid controller, won't that require 4 PCI-E slots? other than that it looks like one wicked machine.

Higher starting frequency does not mean higher ending frequency.

I think Chozart's list is your best direction, amnarii. It will be an incredible beast of a system that should be competent (at the very least) for a long time with minor upgrades.

Yep you are correct..Sorry about that

hmmmm... putting all the wishes in one rig is tough

Well... I think the solution is the ditch the secondary video card.

When you play games, the side panels won't work anyways... so I'd just go in SLI mode for gaming, and get into single video card mode when doing other stuff.

Thus, get the SLI pair of 8800's. Hook the center monitor to #1, and both side panels to #2. When you do anything else but gaming, run the cards seperately (non-SLI) and all monitors will work. Then, when you play games, go into SLI-mode. The side panes will be disabled, and the SLI set up will power the center screen.

Thanks for the help thus far! Okay, well I can dump Vista for XP, and either way it is not part of my hardware budget so I save a few hundred there - I am still not convinced I want Vista yet. I have more than enough input devices already, so that is another hundred or so saved. And dropping the Sapphire will be yet another hundred saved.

That drops the total to roughly $5430. Add on the $3900 for the triple monitor setup, and I am only at $9330, which is a nice fit so far ($2330 out of my pocket and $7000 out of my business). I don't need to spend EVERY available penny, but on the other hand, I do want to ensure I get the best I can afford within the budget. I do have another $2300 or so to play with for hardware, or I can just save it and dedicate that towards more software.

Actually figuring in shipping charges and miscellaneous extra bits, I am probably right at that limit already. I like to plan for an extra 10% of leeway, in case I get hit with tax, shipping, extra wires or mounts and brackets, etc.

I'm still open to more options; but this is looking well thought out so far. This forum has been the biggest help by far, among the 9 I've posted on.
