I think that's gotta be on the DVD or video file itself. You'd just have to stretch it.

Use Media Player Classic or VLC if you want to change aspect ratios. These two run nicely; infact MPC is my default video player now; I find it runs slightly better than VLC on my system.

What are you talking about? The quality doesn't matter. If you stretch the aspect ratio, then everything will be disproportionate, which is bad and looks like crap.

Absolutely! Vidoes are best viewed in the correct aspect ratio; the quality of the encoding has nothing to do with it.

I can't stand using anything other than the right AR while watching movies. The other thing that pisses me off is if the sound goes out of sync with the picture. Fortunately, VLC has an option to manually adjust the audio delay

Another great thing about VLC is that instead of "stretching out" the aspect ratio, you can also "crop" to a certain aspect ratio. This doesn't stretch and mess up how things look, but can take some picture off the sides, and even the top (where you might have the black bars). This way, you can get the best view of the video, while maintaining the default aspect ratio.

VLC > all
