I tried some Shin Etsu out last night and with no other change did see a temp drop. This was not some sort of rigorous test--but it does make my rig run cooler than before.

Does this apply in the same way as AS5 or is there a different method?

I've been thinking about it, but the next time I take the MoBo out of the damn case it's coming out for awhile, I'm tired of disconnecting and reconnecting until I've finished what I'm doing.

First time I applied it I heated it on a lamp for amoment and thinking it would come out really thin I pressed too hard and overapplied..so I tred the plastic baggy trick and smeared it around and used the excess on the second CPU I was seating...well that didn't work--temps where 10C higher.

So I cleaned it of and this time applied a dab abiout the size of a BB--1/8" diameter blob in the center and used the squish method. I did the same on both CPUs and they both dropped in temps to a couple of C lower than I had before the appllication.

Again not a rigorous test. But a simple blob in the center--no spreading it around--did lower temps over AS5.

Now reseating a WB is not something that is precise--you could reseat 30 times and get 30 different idle temps.

I need to reseat (and maybe re-plumb) the Stinger WB as it is not performing as well as the FuZions--and I have seen benches where it hangs with the FuZion..so I need to see what can be done there.

It's working--that much I can say--just apply sparingly.

I applied using the line method on my quad, and saw a 6C drop. Just FYI.

This stuff is amazing, I would recommend it to anyone. It isn't "the best" but it is the best paste, the only thing better is that stuff that fuses your HSF to your IHS.

It's the bomb. I reseated three waterbloocks and saw improvements immediately. When I took down two rigs this morning to sell I saw that the X23-778D has spread very nicely. I simply put a dab smaller than a BB in the center and tightened the waterblock--nothing special. It removes nicely too--and wipes off like AS5.

I thought I had to heat the stuff form what I'd been told--but maybe those people had old dried up X23...because this stuff spreads very easily.

So you applied your Shin to your quad? Out of curiousity, do you have before and after idle temps? Temps can vary with reseats, but what kind of numbers did you get?

Bah...me and my nosiness.

If you left the quad be... *sadness*...then what else did you reseat?
