Professionalism?I am seeing a lot less of that around here lately.Especially the language.People think it's ok to swear or use asterisks instead of the word here. They have no idea of the rules.

I have had some extra time this week to enjoy Overclock.net (lack of work unfortunately) and noticed an increase in the amount of persons joining with the sole purpose of trolling and flaming. Now I will admit I have gotten a little colorful a couple of times, but it was meant in light hearted jest, not to flame someone. I am a member of a couple other forums, and IMO, Overclock.net is the better of them. The others seem to be an "I am better, my stuff is better, than you/yours" forum. Maybe there should be some more required fields to be filled in before one is allowed to post or reply on here, specifically system specs, since that is the one common denominator with the fakers and trolls. But that is up to the Site Administrators. All in all, it is a great forum, except for the few bad apples.

Report them and We will take care of it. Reported posts are answered extremely quick by the staff. During peak times you can expect to see them answered in less than 5 minutes.

One thing that we see a lot of is people responding to posts that they themselves reported. Responding to bad posts makes you a part of the problem as well. You are just spreading the bad post by quoting it.

If you as a thread creator feel that your thread has gone in a direction that you do not like. It is up to you if you want one of the staff to delete the thread instead of trying to clean it up.

I think the mods do a great job of keeping overclock a fun friendly place to come with any type of computer related question among other things. For example the flame war that went on in a WoW post a week or two ago, one of the mods when through and cleaned it all up. Keep up the good work guys and gals!

Signatures

The TOS calls for signatures to not exceed 8 lines nor use text larger than size 3. For the sake of consistency, the length of signatures will be evaluated at the Fix View version of the site (1024x768). Each and every line of a signature counts toward the 8 line maximum including spaces, quote tags, etc. Size 3 text should be used only sparingly, and in most cases, size 1 and 2 text are most appropriate.

Reps should not be discussed in signatures. There is too fine of a line between begging for reps and legitimately reminding members about the rep system, so the line is drawn at not mentioning reps at all in signatures.

The TOS also prohibits the use of external links in signature. "External" refers to sites other than Overclock.net. This policy is consistent with other larger forums. Links to other sites are not permitted. Exception: Until such time as new functionality is added to the site, verification links such as for CPU-Z will be permitted. Also permissible are links to stats for officially-sponsored projects like Folding@Home or BOINC. In time, features will be added that share info in a better way.
Just a question about signatures, and the last paragraph in particular.

Are you letting links to social networking sites slide now (last.fm, flickr, twitter etc.). As i've seen a lot of 'senior members' (as i like to call them) and a handful of staff with those types of links in their signatures.

Thanks.

is there a way to delete a trolls post from your own thread? I understand that the staff is limited in what they can sensor or delete, because it absolutely has to be an infraction of one of the listed rules, if not, a member can sue for, "freedom of speech violation", so what the staff needs to do is give the power to the thread maker, if a troll offends the thread maker in any way, the thread maker should have the power to remove the trolls post. This will stop trolls forever, they will not even try! because it will be a waste of time for them to post and thus have it deleted by the thread maker relatively immediately, I have never seen that type of option in any forum i have ever used. That leads me to believe that it would somehow also violate ones freedom of speech and also result in some type of lawsuit??

list of forum type websites that DO NOT have such an option, that would be perfect if they did

The best you can do is report the post.

Trolling is against the Terms of Service (ToS) as it falls under harassment. So if they are harassing you (trolling you) then you should report them and they will be dealt with rather swiftly.

Obviously there can be a delay from time to time just depending on when staff is online/available. Though, the staff is dedicated. So I would not worry about anything being looked over.

Leaving such an option up to the Original Poster an cause a lot of turmoil, because of the ease of abuse.

Either way, I hope this was some-what helpful to you.

P.S. Rules State that information posted must be factual as well. So if someone posts something that's not correct, such as; "ATi makes bad cards that fail all the time" you can report it and it will be removed. We have an emphasis on quality of content on the site.

just cruising around different threads it seems that members get away with alot, I can find a pair of trolls just reading the first few post of a thread, i'm not sure if the staff just misses it or if they have they perhaps have their hands tied because of the threat of a looming "freedom of speech lawsuit". I can search any recent threads right now and find enough trolls to start a new website. Is the staff really that deticated? I do have a troll and i will report him to the staff right now, but if nothing is done about it, i'll lean more toward the "threat of freedom of speech lawsuit" excuse.
