GHETTO external hdd cooling

okay so i got sick of how toasty my freaking external hdd got, i had wanted to cram some heatsinks on it and well i finally did





old p2 heatsinks i think
sadly i wont be able to get temps cause it doesnt read but im feeling heat in them so they are dissipating some, i wonder is arctic silvering em would help

i have an external and mine doesn't get hot at all. nice setup though.

my only openings are from where i ripped off the front panel

im half tempted to dremel out a slot in the top as soon as i get a new mobo im just putting it inside

I just cut a hole in the side of mine big enough for an 80mm to suck air out of it. Keeps it room temp all day long. The heatsinks are overkill, just get a small fan, mabye a 60mm and solder it to run off the 12vdc that the onboard psu gives to the HDD. Hope that helped some, and the AS5 has better uses, keep it off the hdd.

lol. that actually doesn't look too ghetto at all...

I'd get some arctic silver adhesive stuff and glue the HSs on. also maybe mount a 40mm to ea HS...
