What's this ACPI temp speedfan is reporting?

It calls it Temp1. The chip is reported as ACPI (adress $0). It seems to sit at 40C without moving....

Also, if anyone knows what the Temp3 sensor is on my board (chip: IT8718F, address $290) that'd be cool too. It seems to sit at 25C, so I'm thinking maybe it's ambient temps? Temp1 and Temp2 at that address are the 'CPU' (not core) and MB sensors on the board, and they match what ASUS Probe reports. Temp3 is a mystery, though....

This is what I found, not sure how you can associate a temperature with it though...

Short for Advanced Configuration and Power Interface, a power management specification developed by Intel, Microsoft, and Toshiba. ACPI, which will be part of the next version of Windows, enables the operating system to control the amount of power given to each device attached to the computer. With ACPI, the operating system can turn off peripheral devices, such as a CD-ROM players, when they're not in use. As another example, ACPI will enable manufacturers to produce computers that automatically power up as soon as you touch the keyboard.

yeah, i saw that too (googled it), but like you said i have no idea how that would relate to a temp sensor

Mine hovers around 40c too. I just ignore it. I don't thing it corresponds to anything, as sometimes during benching it goes up, and sometimes it goes down.

So, it just hit me while reading everyone's posts. If my intuition serves me right I would say it is a ambient temperature sensor.

Just finished installing speedfan into my laptop and the ACPI temp was on fire.

Since I live in Florida and was in my garage I went into the house to see if there would be a change and presto back to safe temp.

So my guess, outside air temp, just there to let you know whether you are, or are not in an adequately cool environment to operate your computer.
