Odd Problems

post #1 of 16
Thread Starter
NOTE: This is occuring in Windows Vista x64 not XP x32 so far.

When Im in game, my game tends to freeze sometimes and lock the entire computer up. This occurs in Bioshock, World in Conflict, CSS, ect.

I don't know if it's the CPU or the RAM. It's definatly not the video cards as they're brand new - had to RMA because of failures.

The CPU for some reason now idles at around 40C which I've never seen before because it usually hung around 35-38 when I first over clocking it awhile ago. Under load it hits about 44-45.

This is what I'm getting in Orthos:
Quote:

Slow it back down. Idling at 40C is pretty high on water.

Idle at 40C and load on 45C... the delta is off. Your load is too low or your idle is too high, I'd suspect something's wrong like your block not making good contact to your chip.

Also, try running a small fft, not blend. Small fft is more CPU testing. Let's rule that out first.

There's your answer.

What's holding you back is your CPU. What are your temps, what are your volts. On both idle and load, and use something like Coretemp to get a temp reading.

If it crashes in 4 seconds, it's probably getting too hot because it has a couple seconds before it crashes, but it's also short enough to be too little volt, kind of hard to tell. But maybe after you share your #'s, we will know for sure and can help you.

Ok - read carefully

In BIOS SETTINGS -
Vcore = 1.5V
Memory = 2.225V
2.3 HT = 1.30 V
NB = 1.50
SB = 1.55 V
CPU VTT = 1.55 V

In my BIOS, there is a monitor in which I can see what voltage is being recieved as the motherboard tends to under/over volt.

My CPU water block was missing 1 screw - I found a nice resembling screw and drilled it in. Now the CPU Block is fully locked into place and I still get the same temperatures so the CPU Block is making full contact with it. Not to mention there is a nice amount of thermal paste down there from what I can see.

Vcore = 1.45 V
Mem = 2.25V
1.2 = 1.36V
NB = 1.53 V
SB = 1.58 V
CPU VTT = 1.61 V

Idle Temp of CPU IN BIOS = 42 C
Idle Temp of CPU IN WINDOWS = 43 C
Load Temp of CPU IN WINDOWS = 45-46 C

Your temperatures do not look correct. 1.5v, 3.65ghz. idle 42C/load 46C. too much thermal paste is not a good thing. Too much causes poor cooling, too little causes poor cooling. You need just a dot for a dual core.

What is the temperature of your northbridge and what program are you using to measure.

Im using the motherboad's voltage monitor in the BIOS

The NB voltage is currently running at 1.52 V

Temperature of your NB, not voltage. What are you using to cool your NB.

Pushing a E6700 to those speeds, should have some NB cooling... esp if ur on water.
