negative ... the 2900xt/pro both get performance similar or greater to that of the GTS.

In many cases a stock XT or OCed pro will rival a stock GTX/Ultra, and in many cases an OC'd XT will take the lead over even the ultra.

Honestly if you don't want to go through the hassle of overclocking the card and you have the money the 8800Ultra would be your best choice. If you want to get your hands dirty and slap a nice watercooling block on a 512MB 2900XT you'll get great returns from your efforts.

This is an easy choice. Do you want good performance for a reasonable price, or maximum performance at the cost of $100 more? If you have the money, get the 8800, if not, the 2900 is still a freaking awesome card. You can't lose with either one.

Neither

Do the 8800GTX and simple overclock is just a little.
Then it's cheaper then the ultra and better then both cards.

If you have the extra $, go ahead and SLi but if I were you I would simply wait til 9800.

I knew the 1GB 2900XT can take over the lead of a GTX but if you overlock the GTX even a little, so I heard, you beat it out.

Honestly - I'm all Nvidia either way. Simply from past experiences from ATI that weren't so pleasant.

All your "OC potential" debate is shot down by the guy in the #1 spot with his two 2900XT 512's beating out two ultras.

And anyways the best price/performance is the 2900Pro for $270 clocked above 2900X speeds

For that kind of money, I say wait.
Unless you are like me and absolutely could not wait (years with a crappy card).
You could always buy something cheaper to hold you out until then. Maybe even used.
