Quake Wars

Thread Starter
I have noticed there's not much buzz about ET:Quake Wars on OCN and I'm not sure why as it's the only game I play. The IQ is great and the action is fast and furious. Myself and a few friends started a clan for ETQW to focus on league play. Our server has been very popular and the quality of the games and players joining us has been top notch.

Not sure if anyone at OCN is interested but if so feel free to join us and get your frag on.

Might have been on your server a couple times in the past, my game name is kh*trendy

Keep an eye out for me.

Also, on the note of Quake Wars, I'm kind of disappointed/satisifed at the same time. The game is great, don't get me wrong, but they just n00bified it too much for my tastes. There's no more skill involved in killing someone, unlike W:ET.

For instance, I don't get the aiming system one bit. In W:ET/Quake 3/Quake 4 I have 40%+ accuracy, in ET:QW I struggle to maintain 30% and the motion is much slower than the previously mentioned games.

to me it fell short on so many levels..if it wouldnt have been so bad if released a year ago(hell, it probably would have been badass a year ago)..but now with crysis and UT3..it's basically super old technology and an already used concept

edit: im not saying the graphics are bad..they aren't..but compared to whats being released at the same time as ET QW..they dont stack up..its a glittered up BF2..and is it worth 50 bucks to buy a slightly prettier BF2?..not to mention the sound is really bad

Don't play games by technology bro, never a good way to become good at a game.

Trust me, most of the dudes who mess you up really bad in online games are playing at the lowest possible quality. I can run Wolf: ET and Quake 3 at 333fps solid with highest settings, but I used a super-low quality configuration for team matches.

Another thing, I really do hate people who don't like to try at games that depend heavily on teamwork. (Note: Not directed at you rockin Just frustrated after a recent gaming session, read below)

Just a few hours ago I hopped on ET:QW and got on a server. Turns out, half the people on my team either had no idea what was going on, or just weren't trying. We had 5 soldiers on a 8 person team and the three of us trying to repair the MCP were getting hammered by Strogg APTs and AVTs, took us 20 minutes to move the stupid MCP cause none of the soldiers wanted to rocket-kill anything.

Anyway, ID Software kind of killed the rambo-type player with ET:QW. One guy can't possibly make a difference without a tank or another mass-kill weapon. So if you're stuck on a team that isn't trying, you'll get massacred.

I love ET: QW

The GUI for setting up a server is amazing, with loads of options. I haven't had a chance to play the game properly yet - it's at my work (LAN gaming cafe) and I've been busy getting the server sorted.

Great work on the smaller things though by the developer

I haven't had a chance to check out the server setup yet. Were you setting it up on a Windows server or Linux server?

The only thing I know is that this engine is much better on server usage than the Quake 3 engine. My clan's ET server uses like 50% of the CPU for a 6v6 match. We had 24 people on the demo server we threw up and cpu usage was only like 30%

Windows server.

Different user groups can be passworded and various levels of permissions given, it is very clever.

Pretty much how linux servers are setup. You give each game server it's own user/group, all the servers get one "master" user/group, and then there's the root.

So if anyone ever gained access to the ET:QW server, that's all they could affect, same with the other game servers we run
