Vista will not use 2G of RAM over time due to it's pre-fetch feature which is what assume your referring too (MS calls it Super Fetch but the two are one in the same). Whatever you wish to call it pre-fetching does not work that way while it will quite efficiently cache what memory needs to be immediately available for commonly used applications it will not "hold on too" or cache memory that is not needed rather it will dump it back so it is readily available for whatever other program or application may need it.
The true "memory hog" is XP and it predecessors in this instance as they will literally use all the memory if need be without
returning what is no longer needed when a program is no longer running.
I doubt in fact that it is even using 500MB in all likleyhood about 1/2 to 2/3 of what is being called used is actaully cached RAM.
While I am far from a Vista fan boy as I also use XP Pro and Ubuntu Fiesty as well as Vista Ultimate I tire of the everpresent parroting of what someone else said about Vista.
Ever wondered why there is a conspicuous lack of utlilities such FreeRAM XP Pro for Vista? Simple answer they are no longer needed.
