Difference between X3220 G0 and Q6600 GO

Thread Starter
Am looking at getting a Q6600 G0 but looks like most places have them backordered. Clubit has Xeon X3220 G0 which spec-wise looks the same as the Q6600 and are about the same price. Does anyone know what the difference between the two is?

Thanks...

Note.....I'd like to wait until Jan and get a penryn but don't think I can hold out that long...

I feel like a doof...Clubit does have Q6600 G0 as OEM in stobk but not retail....

X3210 has a 8x multiplier while the Q6600 has a 9x multiplier.

X3320 has a thermal spec of 85c, the Q6600 has a thermal spec of 71c. Otherwise it's the same silicon, except the Xeon is probably cherry picked.

In theory the X3320 should be able to reach higher stable overclocks because it can run much hotter.

I'd say the X3220 is better, as above based on the temp you can run it at.

Sounds like the Xeon is worth the extra few dollars....

I think so. With great cooling, who knows... Might get 3.8.... 4.0 is unlikely, but it still might be possible. Not enough people have bought these and pushed them that I'm aware of.

Just make sure your motherboard supports it.

As it's a kentsfield I don't think you need to worry about that. 'Offically' my ds3 does not support xeons, however my X3210 worked (great) without a hitch. I've read in other forums about this compatibility issue, I haven't found anyone that had any trouble.
However, to be safe I'd do some looking around to see if anyone running is running a similar setup with a X3220
