New build ~ $1500 HD gaming on 60" - Page 2

The 640MB GTS's are still expensive (~$350)

What do you think about crossfire 2900pros (512MB version for ~$550 total) instead of the GTS SLI or the 1GB 2900 pro?

When are you ordering this I know people don't like to wait but the 8800GT and the 8800GTSv2 are coming and you can SLi both of them and that will help with a large resolution.

If you are not aware, SLIing two 512MB cards still results in 512MB of total vram. The memory shares, so it doesn't double. You will still have 512MB of vram.

However, 2x 512MB 2900PROs is going to perform alot better than 1GB 2900PRO because 1GB of vram just isnt needed yet for gaming. I'm not sure how well 512MB of vram will be with... lets say crysis on max at 1920x1080.

Plan to order over the next couple weeks, but waiting a couple months is better than getting a system that can't actually perform in HD (which is the whole point of building the PC).

Do you think that the 8800GTand 8800GTSv2 will be priced in the 2900pro range with much better performance?

Murlocke, great piece of knowlege on the SLI memory, Rep+1. I'll look around to see if there are any charts on Mem usage by game.

The 8800gt 512mb should be priced at 250$ (roughly)

Or you can get the 256mb version for 200$ (not recommended, this will be a terrible choice )

The 8800gt should be realesed on NOV 12th if I remebr correctly and 2 of them in SLI wouldbe a great choice

Thanks. I may just wait a few weeks to see what happens in the GPU space.

Any thoughts on a good SLI mobo (I plan to OC the E6750 as far as I can with a quiet air system)

I'd say get an Antec 900 like the other guys say, but... unless you need to buy this computer right away, I'd wait for the Phenoms, because they come out in less than a month, and along with them come the new AMD motherboards, which have a better crossfire chipset

Are you going to be doing any gaming on this? If not you don't need such a high end CPU or a GPU. You will be fine with an e6420 like mine at stock clocks or just an 8600gts
