Do you guys spread it manually or let the cooler weight do the deed?

Interesting, I haven't seen a bit of difference between AS5 and the ShinEtsu I got from onelivestarfish. No offense to the OP, but I suspect ambient temps, or the amount of TIM, or a better reseat was the cause of a lot of that drop, not the compound itself.

Well I know I didn't do it the "scientific" way...but Shin Etsu dropped 10*C off my load temps. Could've also been slightly due to difference in the amounts...but still. I only use the dot method, and I always try to use the same amount per dot. May not be the most scientific....but its proof enough for me that all I'm EVER buying from now on is Shin Etsu. My AS5 now sits around in a drawer next to my cheapy stuff that comes with coolers.

I actually apply a small dot in the middle of the cpu and in the case of the Ultra 120 extreme, i mount the heatsink and then twist a little bit back and forth.

And before application, I turn on a lamp and place the syringe near the bulb on the lampshade wires. I leave it there for about 5-10 mins to warm up. then I apply.

It is truly amazing stuff. I won't ever use AS5 again.

edit: sorry to hear you haven't seen any drops afzsom. Most people I have spoken with have experience at least a 2-3degC drop off of load temps. Have you tried to reseat?

Yea I tried quite a few re-seats, temps didn't change between AS5 and ShinEtsu. Ambient stayed the same (20-21C), so that wasn't a factor. Used the same mounting method for the heatsink, it doesn't move much during the seating or during the screwing down.
