Microsoft SQL Server 2000 SP4 (MSDE)

Thread Starter
Right I currently have Service Pack 3 for SQL Server 2000. I am in the process of upgrading to SP4 as the Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer tells me to do it.

I get an error however. "A strong SA password is required for security reasons. Please use SAPWD switch to supply the same"

How to fix this....?

Reps are avaliable for any help here as I need to get this done, or MBSA will keep bugging me.....

I use the microsoft (Tech Net) resource if that fails to get an easy way out I have used the search apperatus within MSW2KPro (my OS) I would even check out the newsgroups as a last resort. You've most likely used the Tech Net resource before I just thought it would be my first stop?

have you tried making the switch something like "setup.exe SAPWD=Admin DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS=0 SECURITYMODE=SQL" or "setup.exe INSTANCENAME=NewInstanceName SECURITYMODE=SQL SAPWD=PasswordYouWant DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS=0"

if no one else can help on how to bypass it, I strongly suggest heading over to neowin.net

I found this, dunno if it will help

You must assign a strong password to the sa account during the installation
of any instance of SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine.

Just start setup.exe in command line with SAPWD= parameter set to SA
password. Like
this:

C:>setup.exe SAPWD=somepasswordforSAaccount

Have a look into the below llink which explain how to set the SAPWD while
installation.

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=814463

After the SQL Installation, down load install SP3a from below link.

http://www.microsoft.com/sql/downloads/2000/sp3.asp
Here is the link i found this at http://www.mcse.ms/archive82-2004-6-778716.html

Don't use microsoft SQL server, that answers the real problem, use the MySQL for it is stronger, safer, and better. That's like choicing C# over C++. Because all C# is, is microsofts attempt at an answer at C++. But it FAILS.
