Original XBOX to DVI or VGA adapter

Thread Starter
Hey, does anyone know where I can find a cable to convert my original xbox to DVI or VGA? I just don't know what to do with the thing otherwise.

Redsox, I tried the very same google search but the page leads to a dead company (read the link -- Sony sued them and put them out of business). I have read what little information I can find on this topic and am no closer to finding a solution.

I have a 22" Samsung that have VGA and DVI inputs. I want to connect an old XBox to this monitor. I have absolutely no idea what products are out there, what they advantages or disadvantages are, what price I should expect, and how to get them to work.

Has anyone out there actually done this and what was the experience like? I have two XBoxes, with one connected to my TV mostly for movie playback and another that is brand new in the box, never used (it was left behind on the last ship I was on and nobody claimed it). It's the never-been-used one that I want to connect up.

I'm not looking for a dissertation; I would just like someone to start me in the right direction.

Poor Lik-Sang, that was one of my all time favorite web-sites. As for this topic, I am highly interested in this also.

EDIT: That one doesn't look good because it says "does not work with LCDs"

I will continue to look.

How about this?

That second link is interesting because it's a part that generally belongs to a computer projector. I think I have one of those laying around the office where I work. I'm not sure if it will work properly (I think the signal actually has to be converted, not just passed-through), but I can pick one up cheaply at work (i.e. 5-finger discount) for testing purposes.

Hmm I thought it converted composite to vga. Test it out.

There is a few ways to go about this. You can install a VGA port on the xbox(not all that easy, and a soldering must). If you're up for it, I can find you a guide for it.

Another way would be to get one of those converter cables. I would suggest finding some "component to vga"(type that on ebay), as composite will look terrible(or not even work). Component to vga will work, as long as your monitor has "sync on green" which it should.

Quick search turned up this. You would need a female to female coupler tho.

This looks promising:

http://www.x2vga.com/

Yes, it's $60. It also allows you to connect two consoles and your PC to one monitor and act as a switch between them. Some on-line research on various forums seems to confirm that it does what it promises and produces great picture quality. Hmmm...

I'm going to try the $5 cable solution first, but from what I am reading on various tech-heavy forums I do not believe that it will work very well. It seems that the signal gets across but gets distorted when it hits the monitor because it confuses the monitor. Since I think I can dig up one of these cables for free I will give it a shot... but I haven't seen a single instance out there of anyone saying that this solution works.

If that doesn't work I'm going to give the Neoya product a shot. I guess being a DINK makes $60 a pretty trivial amount of money to me. Meh.
