They seem the same according to those webpages.

If I had to guess I'd say the "S" is silent, "FWB" has a window, and the "F" has nothing special to it.
Kinda confusing, but here is what I got from their website:

F: base model. No extras.

FWB: Black interior with window. No foam, no exhaust baffle,

S: Silent Plus model - Black with no window, bare aluminum interior with foam insulation, exhaust baffle, and stacked aluminum feet, USB3 cable.

Just ordered one of these for my future RAID system. It's amazing how they fit six drives into such a small space. Plus, it wasn't really that expensive (around 50 USD).

Lian Li EX-36B1

Only thing left to do is buy the disks, card and breakout cable. Looking at the Adaptec 6405 or maybe one of the older SATA II models. Will probably go RAID 5 and keep my single SSD for the boot volume.

Nice! Thanks for that.

I've also been curious as to how the front two fans get air sucked in with that front panel blocking the airflow. Do you take it off?

@Gohan It has holes on the side of the front panel to let the air in. But i think it would be more effective to do it all opposite. In through the back and out through the front. I guess you could try both and see what's best.

@SQLinsert If you would be fine with one less drive (3 instead of 4) you could have gone with this one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...5&Tpk=ex%20332

I have it and its great! (i only use it for the intake though, but the trays fit both 3.5 and 2.5 drives and they are pretty easy to use, no tools whatsoever for 3.5 drives)

PS: the one you got fits 4 drives, not 6. Hope you didn't mean to put 6 drives there ^^ (!!!!!!! sorry, noticed the space for 2 SSDs there! AMAZING!!! *-* )

And finally....

little preview of the painting process:

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l1...mu/preview.jpg

(that's still the back side of the grill, and still just primer. Tomorrow for the front and final finish, and hopefully some more small parts. The big cage will be left for friday and saturday after I cut holes for better cable management. Fingers crossed to have the whole thing done by sunday! o/ )

Yeah those 3-bay ones are ok I guess. My case has one of those by default, but without the grille and also a little different with a blue LED fan. They're good for noise isolation with the mounting scheme. I really can't even hear head seeks with the fans on full. Only drawback seems to be using half-height drives and having to double pack in the included foam between the plastic folding clamps. Otherwise the drives would slide around.

What are you building btw?

Here are some old v2000b pictures circa 2005. I ported a G4 to this case. You'll notice the OS X taskbar on the monitors.

Good points about the trays. For added stability there are holes for the middle screws, but doing that without the double foam for the half-height drives would let the plastic lever loose and rattling. I thought of that could happen when mounting 2.5 drives and checked, you can remove them easily. But I'm not sure drivers would be secure enough with just the middle screws (the half-height ones if instead of using double foam you use screws and remove the plastic thing). Oh well, things you think about when choosing parts lol.

And WOW! You had a carnival of light inside that v2000b!!

The one i'm building is a smaller one. PC-8nw. White interior and the original black on the outside, black pci covers and card holder blue cabling (uv sata and sleeving if and when i get to it... hehehe). No LEDs, just 2 12" UV lights stashed somewhere so all we see through the window are the cables shining.

cpu cooler will be a Corsair H60 (i'm thinking of sanding the corsair logo off it and paint my own)

When i switch to AM3 the mobo and ram will get in the black/white/blue scheme too (m4a89td-pro and corsair vengeance black)

hopefully it'll look as good as i picture it in mind, if not maybe i'll add some blue LEDs to give it more shine, but nothing too exagerated. I'm going for a clean and elegant kind of thing.

(mobo, memory and card holder thingy i'll buy later this year. gotta pay for school first hehehe)
