Would anyone know how difficult it would be to take a black PC-O8 case and make the outside silver? As you can from picture below with the glass removed, it would be the top and bottom panel and the vertical strips on the corners, none of which is removable I don't think. How complicated would that be? I would ideally like the actual metal finish that their other silver cases have, rather than a painted look, but I may be asking too much here... I would gladly take it somewhere if they had the facilities to do it. I presume you couldn't just rub it down with various grades of sand paper to remove the black?

You are absolutely right. You could literally just sand off the black. It actually isn't paint - it is a process called anodizing.

However, I would recommend sending the parts to a local anodizing shop where they can use chemicals to remove the anodizing.

You will need to remove the parts either way. That will require a drill, drill bit and a stead hand. I prefer using a 1/8" drill bit right down the center with essential twists off the rivet behind the surface.

If you decide to sand the parts, you may want to build a jig so that you can give straight and proper brushed look. I would use it for removing the anodizing as well as adding a finish to it.

In order to put it all back together you will need a rivet gun and rivets! No need to purchase the black ones since you are going silver!

Taking it to a shop will be the best. But I recommend not just having them strip the anodizing and leaving the surface raw. Have them reanodize it in clear or silver.

As for sanding, if you want an example of how it will look. Here's my EK faceplate that was black anodize, that was sanded down to raw silver.

Yeah that was my next question actually, as I realised anodizing protects against corrosion etc. and removing all that and leaving bare wouldn't be ideal.

I'm in the UK, and I don't know anyone who actually does that or how much it costs, but I will make some inquiries. Kind of nervous about taking apart such an expensive case though lol!

Your pic there is what I'm aiming for.

Shouldn't be more than £100 to deanodize, and reanodize.

Most anodizers will price it based on how many pieces there are.

(I paid £90 to anodize a Apple Mac G5 case)
