well ive got a few questions here about (unlocked and unlocking phones)

1) whats the point of having your cell phone unlocked.

2) any perks with having your cell phone unlocked.

3) what does it mean to unlock a cell phone.

4) is it a good idea to have your cell phone unlocked.

5) does unlocking your cell phone damage it in any way shape or form.

6) is it smart to buy a phone from someone that is already unlocked, or having a company unlock your phone for you.

7) how do you go about having your cell phone unlocked.

1) whats the point of having your cell phone unlocked.

The freedom to use anyones sim card.

2) any perks with having your cell phone unlocked.

If you plan on modding it you can change the firmware/flex and get rid of the service providers content. If you go overseas just pick up a pre-paid sim card and avoid the roaming rates which occur when locked to your country of origin's provider.

3) what does it mean to unlock a cell phone.

When you buy a phone from a certain provider, the firmware on the phone locks you to their network. Unlocking means just that, getting rid of the network lock.

4) is it a good idea to have your cell phone unlocked.

Its up to you and whether you really need to or not.

5) does unlocking your cell phone damage it in any way shape or form.

Not if you get the subsidy code (unlock code) from the provider. If you're unlocking via software off the net and a cable, possibly...

6) is it smart to buy a phone from someone that is already unlocked, or having a company unlock your phone for you.

Once again its up to you...

7) how do you go about having your cell phone unlocked.

Get your provider to unlock it (may cost you, and make sure you know if you have to be locked to the network for a certain amount of time)

Research your phone and see if you can unlock it for free by using a cable and software.

You NEED to make sure that, if you buy an unlocked phone, that it meets the frequencies of your carrier. For instance, in the U.S. we use 850 and 1900 MHz. In Europe, they use 900 and 1800. If you buy a European smartphone that doesn't use both 850 and 1900, you will have little to no coverage. Just make sure that what you get matches your provider's frequency offering and you'll be fine.

The only downside to buying an unlocked phone is that, if it isn't a phone that the carrier originally offered, the carrier will NOT support that device - you're stuck with the manufacturer on that one.

If your talking about the Iphone, if you unlock it, then try to put music on it via itunes, you will brick your Iphone instantly. 400$ down the drain. Itunes is one of the only ways to put music and vids on ur Iphone so it would kinda suck if you bricked it...
