After replacing the crappy little fan that comes with the board, chipset cooling hasn't been an issue for me:

I have had ****ty luck with Crucial Ballistix PC8500... 6 dead sticks so far. I've tried running them at stock settings using Crucial recommended voltages, and undervolting them....they all seem to die after a few weeks of use. My G.skill PC8500 is doing great with zero problems for several weeks now.

Last Q: I see some of you are rockin' your E8400s on this board. Anything I should know moving from X38/X48?
Replace the crappy fan it has, I suggest a good 25-38mm thick fan

From my experience... not really, Ive used 4 different sets of RAM in 2,4,8GB combinations and all work well... the only thing I noticed is with 8GB, the NB REALLY gets hot and needs 1.4v

The 780i has horrid vdroop - you can mod it to fix that, but be prepared for a good 0.10 volt drop if you are unlucky... my board had .1vdroop untill i fixed it, now its like 0.005

Same here with my old ballistix' even though they were on the compatibility list.

You guys think 1.45 at 3.6 is good? I am very pleased considering my cores idle at or below 30C and dont go past 50C

Thanks for the responses. What kind of fan should I look for to replace the NB fan?

Oh, hey. I'm sure you guys have seen this, but HERE is the latest build of Everest Ultimate. It has TjMax correction and - maybe more importantly (?) - it can finally read voltages to the thousandth. I'm sure you've seen it before, I only mention because you brought it up. Original kudos to THIS guy.

Almost forgot to ask: What RAM has anyone brought to 1200MHz on this board? 4x1, 2x2, I don't care... just want to see the speed. (Yummy.)

The thing about ram and the 780i board is that it actually benches faster with tighter timings (and 1T of course) then it does with higher speed and loose timings.

I ram OCZ PC2-8500 on the board. At 800mhz @ 4-4-4-8 1T, it was 6% faster than the same ram at 1066 mhz running at 5-5-5-15 2T.
