Robilar, I have also experienced this issue in the past.

Please don't larf, but can harware components suffer "fatique"?

I bumped vcore a bit and it wouldn't post. Only after I backed down the oc was it stable again.

This is puzzling as 3.2 and 3.6 both passed 8 hours of orthos without issue.

Have you updated your vidcard driver recently? Or have you done the pencil vdroop mod, could be wearing off if you did.

No vdroop mods and video card drivers have been the same for over a month. Only wierd thing that happened was AVG detected that CPU-z 1.42 was a trojan and cleaned it (weird).

Well, I just initiated my 680i -> 780i swap for $89 from EVGA. I'm currently in the "upgrade cue". I paid for 3-day UPS shipping, and I'll be sending in my 680i soon. My 680i actually works fine, but I couldn't resist the offer for $89. Considering the EVGA 780i at Newegg is $260, It's like selling my 680i for ~$170 and buying this one (minus the hassle of finding a buyer). Seems good to me. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

I generally leave them at 101-105 / 201-205. I have pushed them further, but ignorance and fear of borking something keeps me down.
I found that after successive runs with SSP<->MCP Ref Clock, MHZ - 200, 225, 250, 275

I get the highest 3dmark06 score with a setting of 250. actually I have just left it there since then and there haven't been any problems.

regarding PCIe x16_3 , in SLI you use slots # 1 and 2. If you have pcie 2.0 cards you don't even get an option to adjust the clock. Maybe you can changes lanes 1 and 2 with GTX, ultra G80 cards and should see an performance increase. I did with a gts320 on an ip35 pro ( 100 -> 125 MHz)

there should be no performance increase though increasing slot 3, unless in tri-sli.

hmmm, could it be software related then? might want to do some intensive virus/trojan etc. scans. possible also is data corruption, might be worth scanning the disk surface if all else fails...Other than that, maybe back down the memory a little or run memtest to check to see if there are any issues there.

Are you speaking of 3.2GHz (400FSB x 8) and 3.6GHz (400FSB x 9)? Because I've noticed the same thing myself. As in, both of those speeds are stable, but a lot of speeds in between are not (like 375 x 9). I believe this is due to motherboard (680i chipset) straps. Final CPU frequency doesn't matter, it's the specific FSB speed that is causing the problem. An FSB "hole", if you will.

I'm not sure of the exact straps, but somewhere around OCN there is a chart floating around. I'll have to find it (or maybe someone else can).

Some FSB speeds, regardless of CPU frequency, will simply refuse to post with any amount of voltage applied. You just have to test and work around them.

Sorry if you're already aware of these straps, I figured it wouldn't hurt to point it out again.

Not a strap issue. 400 FSB has been rock stable for over a month at 8x or 9x and ram is running at 800mhz. It just started locking up (3 times in the last two days). Could be a software issue but unlikely. Why would COD4 lock the system up totally? Also once it happened, I had a disk boot failure and it wouldn't go past the post screen. software issues would not cause that problem.

I went back to 3.2 and ran 2 hours of orthos without a hitch. Wierd.
