EVGA 780i Overclocking Guide - Page 61

Thanks for the heads up though I didn't know under volting the processor was a bad thing. I also promise I'm not trying to say I know more than either of you. I just wanted to say that I did it and it worked. I'm def not saying I know more than anyone here. I'm far from an expert until we start talking about Oracle Databases. I have better things to do with my time than argue who's processor goes faster at stock voltages lol.. I live in key west and it's spring break seriously ;P Anyway Robilar and Joemaniaci I'm sorry if I stired anything up. It wasn't my intention. Thanks for the info. I'm here to learn not doubt.

Thanks
Luke

Edit: Also running an Rx-7 @ 6000rpms is nothing... Heck almost all domestic sport cars have a redline over 6k... I wouldn't compare a processor to a car motor... not sure where you got that one... Because 6000 rpm would tell me you're running at a higher voltage... If you were to say I'm running a car in 6th gear at 500rpms maybe we can talk... Anyway it's late I'm drunk and I'm not here to fight. Sorry again.

Btw just because I forgot to turn that off .... here is another SS...

Hi everyone. I just got my system up & running last night with my new evga 780i board. I ditched my striker extreme in favor of this board. I'm letting my arctic silver5 set in & then I'll be overclocking. Feel free to add me to your list if you want.

I overclocked to 3.6ghz but having a little trouble getting it 100% stable. I ran Prime95 with the settings below and got a hardware error on core#1 after about 6hours.

FSB(QDR) 1600
Linked/Sync Mem 800mhz
CPU 1.5v
RAM 2.1v
FSB 1.4v
SPP/NB 1.4v
MCP/SB 1.525v
MCP<>SPP 1.25v

I started with cpu at 1.4v and progressed up to 1.5v where i'm at now. Each step resulted in a longer time before prime95 had an error. I then raised my cpu to one step above 1.5v and I received a BSOD after about 20 min of Prime95. Any suggestions?

Considering it should be impossible for your cooler to handle the temps that 1.5 is going to produce. you should really consider the voltmod, it really helped me get a high speed without such a high temp/voltage. what temps are you getting on load with prime.

Actually at 1.5v, the max core temp with prime95 running was 59 degrees celcius with core temp. My cpu & heatsink are both lapped & I run all my fans at 100%. At idle, my actual cpu voltage is 1.464v I'd like to avoid the volt mod. It's my understanding that doing this will void the MB warranty.

Can anyone suggest a good replacement NB and SB air cooler? I scratched mine up doing the foam pad mod and actualy increased my temps doing so. I top out at almost 80c now.

Another thing, I know near the cpu there is a cooler that is connected to the NB via a heat pipe. Will I need to get a replacement cooler for this or can I remove the heatpipe?

I'm not aware of any aftermarket air coolers at this time that will fit over the nb and 2.0 chip.
The Evercool will work on the sb.
Heatpipe removal has been done successfully on other boards.
You probably have a high spot as a result of the scratch that is preventing a good seat on the chip. Some fine grit sandpaper might solve your problem.
