overclock notebook?

Thread Starter
I do not believe there's no software to modify FSB on a notebook. There used to be SoftFSB but it needs to recognize the chipset and it's not been developed for a couple of years. (Hence no Centrino support)

If anyone knows of anything I'd be much obliged if they could pitch me an EMail at yreg@aei.ca letting me know about it.

Thanks in advance.

I been doing systems for years and kow about that - notebooks aren't made to overclock (like some motherboards) You have very limited options in the BIOS .

The only way would be some kinda Windows-based software - haven't found any yet - any ideas??

Thx

well i found one option in the notebook im using right now that droppes the fsb speed at high temps...i guess you could turn this off and burn the cpu but that would be bad...

really your screwed when overclocking a laptop becasue WHAT additional cooling can you do besides sit in a cold room....

Pretty curious that your notebook'll scale down when the temp's high. You'd figure the manufacturer would supply adequate cooling to run it at max indefinitely. (Isn't that CPU throttling in desktop mainboards?) BIOS should scale down when on battery to save power, that's it....

Being pretty experienced at overclocking and steppings I'm pretty sure that EVERY Pentium M will go @ 1.7 or a little better without additional cooling or voltage. So all I need is a little program to up the FSB.....

Most notebooks these days will scale down when they're on battery .....but that's not really a concern. I only really need the additional speed when gaming (works great with the Mobility Radeon 9600 - ever play UT on a notebook? Blows your mind) I generally don't game when it's not plugged in so I don't need it on battery - but being an overclocker at heart and having my notebook my only system that's at spec I'd really like to find something - must be something out there.....

I love playing UT2004 on my notebook. And Halo, and Spellforce, and Diablo2X, and MaxPayne2, and Generals, and Empire Earth (oldie but goodie).

I noticed my fps drops severely on D2X, but I never ever notice a change in smoothness, (depends on where I'm at, and whether I'm on bnet or not)

Anywho, thought I'd throw that in there.

Yes, halo plays fine on my laptop, when things get cluttered, I notice a bit of a slowdown (only when on battery), other than that, its pretty nice.

I wouldnt dream of overclocking it, it gets hot enough as is. The bios is custom specifically for hypersonic, and it sucks @ss. I can change the boot seq. and the date/time, and thats about it.

With the exception of the ram running at 314 instead of 400, and the lack of customization in the bios, the laptop rocks...for being a laptop.
