how to flash your 3870 to get higher oc's than 862mhz - Page 3

post #21 of 46
Yes, I followed your instructions to the letter. My adapter IDs are 0 and 1 as expected. It yields the same error when I try to flash 0 or 1. However, I do have another comp with pciex16. The current card in it barely fits lengthwise. Since the 3870 is somewhat larger I doubt I will have much luck. But it's worth a try.

On another note I can double check my bios to see if there is a setting I missed somewhere.

I'm greatful for your help thus far.

Hey sPOON and all others,
I followed your instructions for my 3870's and both bios's were flashed successfully, thanks alot!!! After flashing, I reinstalled the graphics drivers (8-1_vista64_dd_ccc_wmd_enu_57725 file version:8.451.0.0) but there were no physical changes in CCC requested clock settings, the max given is still 885. Both cards are 3DMark06 stable (17021) up to 855Mhz Gpucore and 1201Mhz mem, which is still pretty high but 855Mhz was around the original lock point so I wonder..
Do you know if there's a way how can I see/test if the flashing was REALLY succesfull or not? Or, if my cards have reached their max stable OC in spite of having flashed the bios? If I set the Gpu and memory higher (up to 875Mhz/1277) and then "Test Custom Clocks" in CCC they pass! I'm a bit confused...
Have any advice? Thanks

All you have to do is test to see if it cuts to black screen when you go over 860. If it does, then the flash wasn't successful. If it does not, then it was successful. Use RivaTuner to set the clocks to more than 885.

Use Riva tuner for Overclocking and ati tool for artifact testing. "Stock" Overclocking programs usually suck.

@9voltchicken
i'm having the same problem with you.I have 2 cards one with 0.73 bios and the other with 0.67.Of course i'm trying to flash the 0.67 card.
Can you confirm with Gpu-z what bios are your cards?

Thanks
post #28 of 46
Ok i found the problem........ the parameter -f MUST go first NOT last.

A:\\ATIFLASH.EXE -f -p 0 HD3870BIOS.bin

I have an HD3870 and x2 in CF, will this work on both cards? Or just the HD3870?
