Can See the monitor Refreshing while playing games

Thread Starter
I just recently upgraded to a P4 3.0e and 6800 Gt 256mb card. While playing games I can see the monitor trying to vertically refresh. I straffe from side to side on walls and you can really see it doing it. The only way I have found for it to stop doing that is turning on vsync, but that limits the frame rate of this card. My monitor is kind of an old Sun Microsystems 21" monitor. Do you think its time to put the old dog down for a dirt nap? If so what is a good monitor to replace it with that will keep up with this video card?

Thanks!

You are probably right. I pushed this monitor up to 100Hz so atleast I can get up to 100 FPS on the games until I buy a new monitor. I might go snag one this weekend.. NEC makes good monitors I hear. That monitor is a little out of my price range though. I assume most of the newer models of monitors would be able to handle with the Vertical Refresh of high speed games like DOOM and Unreal? I was looking at a NEC .22 the other day I think it was a 19'. Seemed like a reasonable price, nothing fansy like the FE211 SB though.

I was running at 85HZ at 1024x768 any higher res it pushes it down to 75hz. It was working fine at that until I upgraded to the P4. Even with my older Nvidia 5700 256mb card it was doing it. I managed to crank it up to 100HZ at 1024x768 and it still does it in any game unless I turn on vsync, but vsync is limiting this powerful card. It even does it in Tiger woods 2004 just to give you some idea.
