Demything the Galaxy 8800GT - Page 13

Just joined up and have been reading this thread. I have 2 of these babys in sli and want to overclock them but am very inexperienced. Rivatuner when installed with sli running only detects 1 card. with non sli install it detects 2. The problem is enabling sli with rivatune installed causes it to only detect it as 1 card and doesnt give me any clock speeds at all thus not allowing me to change them. I believe this is a vista 64 problem. What i would like to know id the following:
What is the best way to overclock 8800gt sli in vista 64?
Is riva tuner when installed with sli enabled, changing the speeds on both cards at the same ime or just the one? (remeber it doesnt appear to show the 2nd card)
If i use rivatuner with sli disabled, then overclock the cards indidvidually, will the clock speeds stay at the ones i set even though rivatiuner does not detect the clock speeds when after enabling sli?

Is ther another program I could use instead of rivatune to overclock my grpahics cards in sli??

Vista does present new challenges aye!

I tried PMing you, but I forgot that feature isn't available to new users w/ low posts so I'll answer here:

enable SLI through your Nvidia control panel, then download GPU-Z to verify that the cards are in SLI mode
also make sure you have the latest drivers.

Overclocking in SLI is essentially the same as overclocking a single card...
Both cards must be running at the same speed, so any raises in clock speeds is applied to both cards
In other words, you can't clock up the cards individually

In rivatuner, with SLI on, it should only show 3 bars (core, shader, and memory)
upping the clock speeds affects the clock speeds on both cards

To killa_concept and others:

First thank you for posting your great test and report, I am currently deciding which 8800gt to get, now I know .

I did some research online, went to Galaxy's chinese website (since I can read chinese), and found out that they have a software called that supports several of their cards, and can tune few settings of the card.

So I went to their english website, and found a "8800GT Extreme Tuner" version that supports a software called "Extreme Tuner" (duh). Here's what they said it could do on the website:

1. Graphics cards fan speed control Area

2. Graphics card's Core/ Memory/ shader clock control area

3. Operation Monitor

4. Flash BIOS

Since you said the dual-slot version card runs at 100% fan speed all the time, you might want to try installing this software and see if it could tune it down?

Here are the 2 websites I've mentioned:

8800GT Extreme Tuner:
http://www.galaxytech.com/Product_De...s1=1&class2=31

Xtreme Tuner:
http://www.galaxytech.com/xt/

Hope it helps

ps. I couldn't find a download link for Extreme Tuner on Galaxy's english website, but I found one on their chinese site. Here it is (with a different name?):
http://www.szgalaxy.com/serve/download/MagicPanel.rar

I would be sweet if that software would control the fan speed because mine runs at 100% all the time and is very loud

Unless Galaxy has modified the BIOS on this this new "extreme" card there is no software, not even their own that will allow the fan speed to be turned down. RivaTuner, their Extreme Tuner application...all have come up empty according to past users because the BIOS has locked the fan speed at 100%.

I do like the BIOS flashing option though.

It makes you wonder if they would even cover your card under warranty if their software botches a flash? I don't know of any companies that will cover that under their warranty.

It's weird because from what I've read on forums from china, they can manually tune the fan speed through ntune or extreme tuner. Hope the one I'm buying soon from Australia won't have this problem.
