I actually find my computer running faster with page filing on. I'm using 1536MB RAM.
I thought this is how it is, with gaming.
The textures are all stored on the RAM (if there is enough room on the RAM of course) and not the HDD, and the rest is being stored and calculated by my graphics card.
Pagefiling is more used when multitasking, at least, that's what I thought. Don't take notice of my brainstorming .

There are some programs that need the page file to run. Also there are reg keys that will tell windows to load the kernel into ram which will do nearly the same thing for you and it let those programs run aswell.

Btw if I remember right some versons of windows will wig out without the page file.

Just changed it as suggested, and got a nice healthy BSD on startup. Good job I made a system restore point just before hand.

You should NEVER disable your pagefile. It has been PROVEN to cause minor instability, and can sometimes cause crashing.

The whole 'forcing windows to use RAM' is bull. Windows will override this to a certain degree anyway!

You are better off leaving your pagefile @ the default of around 2.5gb.

You should set your paging file to 1.5 times the amount of ram you have. So for you 512 x 1.5 = 768
