AMD Phenom (K10) Overclocking Guide

Using ASUS Mainboard Series M2N32-SLI Series, OC of the Phenom 9500 is quite possible if You use high speed Low Latency RAM.
Board 1:

ASUS M2N32SLi Premium DeLuxe Vista Edition
RAM Corsair TWIN2X6400C4Pro 2 x 1 Gb
Stock Phenom 9500+ water cooled.

Due to a bug in ASUS BIOS the HT Speed is FSB x 1. This may be why I don't get problems with HT speed

Memory is at 2.1 Volts.

This



setting is ROCK Stable, and is crunching 4 SETI Tasks 24/7 at 100% CPU utilization.

However if I raise the FSB by just one more MHz the ting starts to crash once in a while, so this seems to be the upper limit.

I wish my board supported phenom.

Do you think asus will ever release a bios update for it or will there be hardware limitations because its a low end board?

what asus board do you have. i have an asus m2n 32 sli deluxe with bios revision 1503 thats suppose to support the phenom. i guess we will see.

I am using this board to run my second Phenom 9500+ machine.

Using OCZ2P800R22GK 2 x 1 Gb RAM. Keeping the SPD values and supplying 2.1 Volts to the RAM this board runs 2420 MHz Rock stable.



I am using this machine as a mediacenter and it is equipped with a Hauppauge TV Card and a Technisat DBS-Card. They do not like higher FSB than the 220 MHz. The ting runs at FSB 237 = 2600 MHz but my TV recordings seems to be trashed, not always, but occationally.

The 2420 MHz speed runs for weeks at a time all 4 cores at 100% CPU (4 SETI Tasks at a time, must be just as good a benchmark as Prime 95). I still have not seen this seting fail.

If You buy a Phenom for Your Board, Your processing power raises one and a half times, compared to an Athlon 64X2 6000+, even with the stock 2200 MHz.

Save Your dole and go for the 9500+ and not the 9600+ BE. Spend the extra cash on the Low Latency RAM instead. OCZ RAM of the kind used is said to go to 520 MHz at relaxed timings, so it will run without problems at 440 MHz.

The 9600+ BE is made from the same silicon and will not go higher without raising the CPU Voltage to dangerously high levels.

Most important: Your M2N32SLI DeLuxe will 99% sure NOT work with a 9600+.

I have tried it myself.

Phenom 9500, no problems, Phenom 9600, the CPU does not start at all.

It is a BIOS problem, ASUS seems to have forgotten to include the ID for the 9600.
The BIOS for the SLI Premium Vista Edition is different and will accept a Phenom 9600 as well as the 9500+.
Beware or You will end tearing Your hair out.
