Wow!

My PC isn't 100% silent (of course), but it's barely noticeable.

Thanks.

Works great! I used bungee cables. The internal clicking of the hard drives are still audible, but greatly reduced. Thanks a lot. Here is a video comparing before and after sound for anyone curious:

wow, idk if this is odd but I randomly decided to look at this thread today and then you post after I look at it. XD

I have a HDD wrapped in rubber bands myself. biggrin.gif

That is odd. :}

I'd be weary about using rubberbands. They tend to "dry" and lose elasticity, eventually breaking. Unless you plan on regularly replacing them, be careful!
post #59 of 64
Thank you poster and whoever thought of this HDD silence method. I have tried this and have noticed a HUGE difference in sound production.

I recently got these two Seagate harddrives for cheap, which are appearently known for being loud. The first Time I installed them I installed them onto the chassis, albeit not in direct contact (put some rubber between), hey (probably) resonated with the rest of the chassis to amplify a really low pitch hum to the point where I could hear it two floors down.

Then I tried this suspended method descriped and not only did it pretty much negade the sound from the harddrives, this also absorbed alot of other regular rumblings from my pc, such as seeking noices, gfx card startup, CPU noices. These hardrives seem to be not only super quiet but also seem to act as shock absorbers for other equipment now. biggrin.gif. I think this might work kind of the same way as how japan uses counterweights to balance and absorb shocks from earthquakes in their quake proof buildings.
