does anybody know of a way to run this game in window mode? any console commands?

You can change settings manually by going into the cod4/players/yourname folder and editing the config_mp.cfg file.
To change the screen resolution:
search for "seta r_mode"
change the mode in the quotes to one you know works well.
e.g.
seta r_mode "1024x768"

^^ What does that have to do with running the game in windowed mode?

One trick you can always try is ALT+ENTER, anything that can run in windowed mode should if you hit those buttons.

no good, certain games dont follow that and require commands in the console, i remember the few days i played ET:QW's i has a command for it.

Type /r_fullscreen 0 into the console then restart the game.

Then when you want to go back to Full screen type in /r_fullscreen 1 then restart the game.
