E8400 Build - Looking to hit 4.5GHz

Thread Starter
I'm upgrading/putting together a new system, and just wanted to see if anybody agreed that I should be on target to hit my goal here:

CPU: E8400
CPU Cooler: ZeroTherm NV120
RAM: Crucial Ballistix PC8500 2GB
Mobo: Gigabyte P35 DS4
-- Other --
Case: Antec 900 (all fans installed)
Video Card: EVGA 8800GTS G92
PSU: Cooler Master Real Power 650W
Sound: Xi-Fi Platinum
Hard Drive: Seagate 7200.11 500GB
Optical: SATA LiteOn

I went with the PC8500 RAM in order to OC it and keep 1:1 with the FSB, then have the extra room to tighten the timings. I'm going to shoot for a 500 FSB with x9 multiplier, and clock the RAM to 1000Mhz with 4-4-4-12 timings. This realistic? Only items pending to order are the CPU/Mobo combo and hard drive

A TRUE(thermalright ultra extreme) would be better then that, or a maybe Tuniq if you wanna hit that high. Both with a CFM fan.

i dont think you will have the success you are looking for, maybe not so much with that Gigabyte board
i know a bunch of people who are 500+ stable on the DFI boards, but i know a few have had the Gigabyte -35 boards that high. but seem to be problematic boards at random

I think you should go Q6600 but thats just my .02. But if you are going for balls to the wall performance make sure your case(ambient) temps are great. MOD SOME 120's!

Firstly, you won't be keeping 1:1 with a FSB of 500MHz unless your RAM is doing 2000MHz. In fact, you will only be 1:1 with that RAM up to a FSB of 266MHz. Secondly, it is PC2-8500, not PC8500. Two completely different things. Thirdly, I think you'd be better off with a WD Caviar SE16 drive (AAKS models), as they are the fastest-clocked 7200RPM drives I have seen to date. Finally, I would get a more proven air-cooler since ZeroTherm has not been thoroughly tested like the TT120, TRUE, and others.

Wouldn't the RAM be doing double rate, so 2000... with the FSB quad pumped doing 2000 as well?

The 1066MHz the RAM is rated at is the double rate.
