I have no safety guards on any of my tools. I take them off and throw them in an ever mounting pile.

Anyone that does this for a living knows that the tools are dangerous: those silly guards are how MFR avoid getting sued.

If you have ever tried to work with all the OSHA crap in place that is required you would know it is about impossible to see what you are doing.

I put my finger in the saw in 1983...that was the last time.

I am a quick learner

Btw, I watched some of the sawstop infomercial on their website. One of the guys put his thumb right into the saw's path. Now, I've used a table saw like once, and I know that one of the rules is to NEVER put your body parts in the path of the blade! If you stick your thumb right into the blade's path, then you deserve what's coming.

CD, what happened when you put your finger in the saw? :O

If you know how to properly use any kind of tool, you don't need all of that safety garbage.

The only safety guard that I think is worthwhile on a tablesaw is that clear plastic cover that goes right over the blade, and raises itself when you slide something under it. That could prevent an accident after you turn the machine off, and you're cleaning up (but the blade is still spinning quite fast).

Other then that, I can't see how anything would help if you're going to not pay attention and slide your hand into the blade.

agreed! i might pay a visit to my old shop class teacher to give him that URL

although most of the kids was always slackers... some of us enjoyed shop class..

they had an old old table saw.. i think the table was 5ft.. but for the safety features of this thing! thats awesome!

now they need something for drills? my history teacher told us a story once... guy with long hair at his job was using a bench drill.. had long hair.. wrapped around it and scalped him..

My favorite Urban Legend is the Shop owner that wanted his guys to stay late and finish some work but they left so he got out of his nice clean office in his suit and tie and starts running stock through the tablesaw and it grabs his tie and they find him there face down on the blade, saw still running...

Can you imagine...?

When you stick your finger in the saw two things happen...first there is a flash of white light like and explosion inside your eyeballs then there is the rush of adrenalin or whatever that actually helps you avoid shock for a few moments...during that brief interlude you are able to do what needs to be done to get yourself to some help...then you generally collapse in a heap and go into semishock.

Whacking your digits is such an overload to the nervous system that I think your body disconnects and absorbs the hyperactive nerve energy...and then shuts down and reboots

And it makes your finger shorter. Luckily I have some lizard blood in me and it grew back. The fingerprint is still messed up though.

If all else fails, just reset your cmos and boot back up. All that's lost are a few peripherals

I once cut my finger under a lawnmoyer at work. It was so painful you can't imagine. You feel the nerves up to your neck. Got sick from the pain.
