Who says you're using 94% may I ask?
Servers would need such large reserves of RAM. In fact, in a SERVER - they're hardly be.. RESERVES!
But as for video editing, UNLESS you're working with MULTIPLE HDTV files, ALL AT ONCE, you're really not going to need that much!,
I mean - its not like you purposely want EVERYTHING to be loaded to RAM - you got HDD's man!
In my experience, getting yourself a good 2 RAID 0 config's would really to you wonders.
In Layman terms.. remember, that your machine will load to RAM, files from your HDD it CURRENTLY NEEDS. It works in such a way that when it will NEED files in a few moments
, that request is executed WHILE it PROCESSES data ON HAND. (so by the time its done with that - it has the other bunch it needs) at leasts - your os/hardware tries its best to work as smoothly as possible, with this basic algorithm.
So - VERY SELDOM, if EVER, will your PC need to chock up 8GBs of DATA, in RAM, AT ONCE!!!
Here's a lil test you can do.
Go into controll Panel, and under system, DISABLE YOUR PAGEFILE.
restart your machine.
Then, go about your usual authoring / editing activities (open up all the apps your typically use at once) (this is assuming you use windoze btw
Then, go to task manager, and look at how much of your RAM it reports is being uttilized - that will give you an excellent Idea ^_^
