Ok first time OC'er

I'm going for 3.0ghz, What are the basics I need to know, what settings in the bios, and do I need to change anything on the memory?

Also best program to check if its stable??

That's a great board for overclocking man. I bought one of those while I waited for my 780i RMA to come back. Back on topic...

You should really look at the overclocking guide to get familar with the process and what it's all about.

Here is another thread the P35-DS4 Lots of users with the same board as you. Before you begin take the time to really make sure that you can get around the bios and understand how each option will affect your overclock.

Welcome to OCN and good luck.

I Just read that guide thanks, but it confused me a bit,

I'm unsure if I need to change my memory or anything, I think 3.24 ghz is good for me? 360fsb x9

Should I take it up in increments and Just set the fsb to 360 and see how it goes?

Also should I power my cpu by the 8 pin or the 4 pin power connector?
Right now its on the 4.

Spoken from the man at 4.1GHz. Good job microman. By the way, I finally put the right water additive mix in and am doing about 4C lower because of it.

But, I agree, that chip will do 3.2GHz without even blinking.

Just leave the power stuff on normal? (Auto)

coz when i enabled control for the host cpu frequency so i could change my fsb from 266 red blinking text told me my power settings were not optimized.

Also 4 pin power or 8 pin?

ok, Will not post a fsb of 360, computer after saving and exiting from cmos tries to start up, *lights come on fans go* then shut down starts then shuts down, then it starts but settings have gone back to default.

At 333 fsb Computer started fine, logged into vista fine, and 11 mins into prime95 Version 25.6

is there a program that displays all my comps hardware and settings like vcore and such so you guys can tell some settings that "should work" and Ill go from there?

These are all settings on default:

Any help appreciated, and please ask if more information is needed, I'm really hoping to get this cpu over 3ghz *aiming for 3.2*

I tried setting FSB to 400 with a 8x multi, and vcore 1.41500 <- I think it was might be a bit off

but once I save and exit, pc trys to boot, shuts down 3 times then boots with settings on default by its self

Mine does the exact same thing on minor changes. as soon as you save the changes then it immediately shuts off. then starts for a second or two then shuts down again. Then finally it will post adefault settings. I thought it was just my board. I guess not.

The only change I got to work that i tested was fsb of 333, But it was not stable, I probably needed to change some other things like vcore
